Umbrel still won’t run stable

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

As mentioned some time ago, my Umbrel server always freezes after a day or two.
This problem still persists. And I got no idea why. Only have the Bitcoin Knots and Public Pool installed and running.
Today I decided that I won’t be running any uptime sensitive applications for Bitcoin services anymore on Umbrel. Only small unimportant apps on my second umbrel that I do not need all the time.

It is sad, because umbrel is so easy to use. But there is no other way around it.

Might install ckpool soon.

PS: The Bitcoin related umbrel runs on a Pi 4 with 8 GB. The other umbrel runs on a Pi 5 with 16 GB and is running stable and smooth somehow. However I am going to mess around with ckpool soon on my Pi 4. Or I might switch the usecases of the two Pis, maybe it is because it is an older Pi 4, who knows. Time will tell.

I have acquired some top level domains under retail price.
And I will run a couple of projects there built up from nothing.

Stay tuned.

My current best difficulty in Bitcoin Mining

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

A few days ago one of my miners reached a new best difficulty! 5.73G!
Here’s to hoping to enter the Trillion-Club soon. And then solve a block.
You never know. Every single hash counts.
By the way I had my Icarus Block Erupters running for the fun of it a few months ago again.
They instantly reached a best difficulty of around 4M! It is pure luck based.
Not what hardware you got. Sure more hashes per second is better but still, older hardware can do the trick too. I had read last year about a guy who had Icarus Block Erupters running and solved a block with them. Soo..
I keep on mining.

Why BitAxe Firmware needs an update for batch editing

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

Every single time I want to switch pools or want to edit something else, it takes up too much time. Switching pools takes minutes instead of seconds. It is because I have several BitAxe miners. And a Batch editing feature is yet to come for the firmware/internal website of a BitAxe device.
As a frequent pool switcher like me this is very time consuming.
There are 3rd party tools out there to solve this but I prefer the baked in features.
Keep on mining.

DATUM Mining Pool? No idea how to configure that one

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

I tried. I really tried it with DATUM. But could not get it configured.
It displays a weird external IP address which clearly is not my local server.
When I enter a local IP it just won’t connect with my miners. Also: How to connect it to Bitcoin Knots? This is wizardry! Nobody can tell me it is easy to configure it and get it running.
Until I have figured that out, I will be running public pool.

My Umbrel Server randomly freezes

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

I have no idea why but my Umbrel server freezes sometimes.
I have the Bitcoin Knots and Public Pool installed and my miners pointed to it.
(I did not generate any money yet haha)
Today I woke up with the Umbrel server being down despite the Raspberry Pi which hosts it being up and running. Very weird.

Have restarted it and it is running again. Nice.

Created my own Blog

(Stock photography by freepik.com)

I have successfully created my own blog. After owning michael-meyer.net, michael-meyer.art I also now own michael-meyer.blog.
I plan on blogging sometimes about the daily life in IT, media design, crypto and about my cat.
So you know it’s going to be some real hot content.
Until then, this is the first post that is visible.
